Volunteers Needed Members Only Seed Handling Free Public Parking
In 2017, Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department planted 8 acres of tallgrass prairie in Noelridge Park.
Karla McGrail has gained permission to gather seed for the Wild Ones chapter seed library, for personal use by members, to give away to the public, and for the city for use in their projects.
Meeting point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/1aznVABJy6PamAV16
Meet in the parking lot at the Noelridge Greenhouse side near the entryway to the outside gardens.
What to bring and wear
• Please wear appropriate clothing: we will be bush-whacking through tallgrass prairie patch areas which contain a whole lot of that beautiful Showy Tick Trefoil, which has a very aggressively sticky bur. (Collecting those seeds is very easy but annoying!)
• Avoid fleece or other fibrous fabrics.
• Consider covering your hair.
• Bring small pruners or scissors.
• Maybe a larger bag with straps to hold smaller bags.
Karla will bring lots of lunch-sized paper bags and markers.
RSVP
Please let Karla know if you plan to be there, or need to cancel your attendance, so we know who to wait for! Check your email for an event announcement with Karla's cell phone number.
Seed collection practices
We ask that all volunteers to review the chapter's Seed Collection Practices (currently a draft) before collecting, donating, or sharing seeds.
